FRI 6 & SAT 7 SEPT: SUSAN HANSEN (UK/AU)

Susan Hansen is an interdisciplinary academic with a background in forensic psychology, visual sociology, and art history. Her unique approach to street art, graffiti, and urban contemporary art is grounded in her intersectional expertise. Susan is Chair of the Visual and Arts-based Methods Group at Middlesex University, London. She is also Director of Art on the Streets, which hosts urban art talks and events, including a symposia series at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London.

Susan is also Editor of Nuart Journal, a peer reviewed forum for critical discourse and commentary on urban art. Susan has research interests in viewers’ material engagements with, and emotional responses to, street art and graffiti; in the analysis of street art and graffiti as a form of visual dialogue; and in the contemporary application of heritage frameworks to street art and graffiti.

Susan is committed to engaging and connecting outsider audiences with contemporary urban art and scholarship through open access publications, symposia, and uncommissioned independent public art.

THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 5. 21:00–23:00 FIGHT CLUB, KÅKÅ, VALBERGET 3:
Nuart recreates the ambience of the original symposia by hosting a debate on a current hot topic in street art culture to be argued by two opposing teams made up of artists, academics and industry professionals. Evan Pricco (Managing Editor of Juxtapoz Magazine) and Dr. Susan Hansen (Department of Psychology at Middlesex University) go head-to- head to argue these points and more in the latest installment of Nuart's legendary Fight Club. Refereed by Doug Gillen (Founder & Director, Fifth Wall TV).
