HYURO

Based in Valencia, Spain, Argentian-born Hyuro is one of the most exciting newcomers on the street art scene. After traditional art training and years of practicing more traditional mediums she’s been discovering the streets as canvas over the past few years. Working as a solo artist as well as in collaboration with big names such as Escif or Sam3, Hyuro has built an impressive street-based collection of highly illustrative painted murals on walls across Western Europe. Most recently for Nuart’s ___Capitalism? Project with Escif in Bergen.

Introverted human figures, caged animals, birds, nature, all too human, frequently appear in her paintings, provoking inquiries of freedom, self, other. Through her art Hyuro seems to be facing up to worries and fears, looking for answers about identity and life. Slow-things, reflective. And with a subdued palette of only black, grey’s and white. The simple things, thoughts laid out, carefully sketched. No shouting, no screaming for attention. Hyuro offers new possibilities for this thing we call street art. The possibility for the viewers to commune with themselves, their friends and family rather than with the artist, the slogans, the politics. And it’s these possibilities for street art that we find exciting about Hyuro’s entry into the urban space.
