LUCY McLAUCHLAN

As part of this years Nuart Festival and in association with Hå Gamle Prestegard arts and culture centre, the region will get to witness one of our most audacious street works yet. If it can be called street that is…

Renowned UK artist Lucy McLauchlan has been invited to bring her unique brand of mark making to Obrestad lighthouse off the shores of Jæren, this protected national heritage site, one of the most beautiful and isolated areas of coastline in the region is host to tens of thousands of visitors each year.

Well aware of the sensitivities of placing “urban” culture in nature, we could think of no one more suited to the project than Lucy McLauchlan.

Lucy has covered an array of surfaces around the world with her unique brand of improvised monochromatic paintings. From underground abandoned tunnels in New York to the top of water towers in Italy, from the streets of Birmingham and London to more recently, village huts in Gambia.

For 2 weeks in September the artist will be in residence at Hå Gamle and will be creating a 36 foot artwork on this regional landmark.

Lucy’s previous commissions and exhibitions include: Lazarides Gallery London, The Underbelly Project New York, Crono Festival Lisbon, Fame Festival Italy, The Herbert Art Gallery & Museum, London Arts Club Mayfair, New Art Gallery Walsall, Fifty24SF San Francisco, Hankyu Dept Japan, Wolverhampton Art Gallery, Santa’s Ghetto London, NNE Brussels and Birmingham Central Library.

Her work is held in numerous private collections, including the permanent collection at the V&A Museum London.
