1UP CREW x AVINOR

For its 2019 edition, Nuart festival had the pleasure of hosting the world-famous graffiti crew; 1UP. The crew has been bombarding the streets of Berlin since the early 2000’s and have managed to walk a fine line, staying true to the roots of graffiti whilst also pushing the art form into ever more adventurous territory through a variety of interventions and more.

Avinor, Stavanger Airport, has been a long-time partner of the festival. For this year’s festival, the airport was challenged with a piece from the German graffiti crew – and to Nuart’s big surprise they agreed.

Curator Martyn Reed says: “No one was more surprised than me when Avinor, the owners of the city’s main airport, agreed to have 1UP Crew outside the departure lounge, one of the highest footfall areas in the region. I honestly thought they'd balk at the idea. It's testament to just how far this culture has come in the region and to our longstanding and trusting partnership with Avinor that allows us to work freely with some of the biggest names in the world. When it comes to art, Sola Airport has to be one of the coolest and most progressive Airports in Europe!”

You can catch 1UP’s incredible installation for Nuart at the “Brand New, You’re Retro” exhibition in Stavanger until Oct 6th.
