HYURO x PAINT THE CHANGE

Paint the Change creates local and global street art campaigns to highlight social justice issues and to create opportunities for community outreach. Launched by Canadian-Iranian journalist, Maziar Bahari, who was the subject of John Stewart's 2014 film Rosewater, our projects have developed a network of artists across the world and are complemented with short and long-form documentaries. Their biggest street art campaign to date, 'Education Is Not A Crime', spanned 40 murals around the world and was documented in our award-winning film 'Changing the world One Wall at a Time'. Paint the Change have long wanted to work with Hyuro, who, as an artist, represents everything they love about the power of street art to start difficult but important conversations.

Hyuro, an artist originally working on canvas, took to the streets after striking up a friendship with Spanish street artist Escif. From small scale doors to large scale walls, Hyuro has carved out a reputation for addressing prevalent social and political issue, with the characters she depicts often subordinated by patriarchal and capitalistic systems of power. Her piece for 2018’s Nuart Aberdeen proved a real talking point, exploring the political and social relationship between Scotland and England and opening up new dialogues on the cities streets.
