JULIO ANAYA CABANDING'S LARS HERTERVIG

For Nuart Festival 2019, the Spanish artist Julio Anaya Cabanding re-creates one of the national-romantic landscape paintings from Stavanger artist Lars Hertervig.

“Fra Borgøya” has been duplicated and brought from the traditional museum walls and can now be found inside the beer halls at Tou.  Julio Anaya Cabanding is placing his own interpretation of iconic and traditionally styled paintings in unexpected, and often abandoned places. The artists mission is to move paintings from the sacred space of museums and galleries, and place them in the world of graffiti and street art. Julio’s work generates new meaning and a different type of encounter with art and daily life.

Lars Hertervig (1830 - 1914) is regarded as one of Norway’s most significant artist. His work consists of landscape paintings from Sunnhordaland and Ryfylket, as well as primeval forests and fjords. His paintings have made a highly original contribution to Norwegian national-romantic landscape painting. The way Lars Hertervig combined colours with materiality of paper is unparalleled in Norwegian art history.
