TOO FAR, TOO CLOSE BY IGOR PONOSOV (RU)
NUART FESTIVAL 2017 - IGOR PONOSOV (RU) from NUART on Vimeo.
Too far, Too close is a project by Igor Ponosov which sees a typical Stavanger sailing boat transformed into an abstract mural for Nuart Festival 2017.
Based on the kind of standard eye charts used by eye doctors, Ponosov has adapted a 50ft sail to create a unique, floating mural. The mural will ‘set sail’ every day from Thursday 31st August – Saturday 2nd September, giving Stavanger locals the opportunity to spontaneously test their eye sight. Alternatively, you can get them checked with the assistance of a doctor as part of a performance on the opening night of Nuart Festival this Saturday 2nd September at Tou Scene (kl1900).
From the artist:
Within the context of a street art festival, Too far, Too close symbolizes the distance or disconnect between the public and the vast majority of state-sanctioned public art. I have tried to demonstrate this idea in two ways: both physically (in that the mural is existing outside of the city) and conceptually (in that the ‘content’ is totally abstract bordering on the absurd). The piece is also an attempt to open up new spaces for self-expression in future (ie. the ocean).
