EDWIN (UK)
Edwin is a London based artist who’s found power in calling out the shady politics of the capitals rich and powerful with words on walls. Looking at his witticisms, the delivery harks back to ‘the writing on wall’ of 70’s London as documented by Roger Perry in his book of the same name with the social engagement of Nuart Favourite and steet art pioneer John Fekner, all with a pinch of humour ala David Shrigley.
The results can be both shocking and hilarious, a reflection of our current political sphere but Edwin aims to provide a sort of visual map to help the viewer navigate and make sense of these confusing times. The absurd often segues into the sublime through his simple interventions but often the simplest of ideas can have the most impact. Aesthetically deceptive, the work can appear crudely simple yet is conceptually informed and his works become more than the sum of their parts.
