OX (FR)
OX is a French street artist who uses existing billboards and advertising infrastructure, removing the original adverts and cutting and pasting them back together to create a new and often humorous art work. Emerging from art school in the 1980’s, OX met Jean Faucher who inspired him and his friends to take to the streets, leaving their mark across Paris. Encounters with Keith Haring and Andy Warhol also left their mark on OX although he soon began to question his message.
His studio and gallery work helped him develop new ideas around the basis of aesthetic shock, utilizing and misappropriating street signs and commercial imagery, re worked and abstracted to create something completely new. With a playful dialogue, his interventions look directly to their immediate environment for both inspiration and commentary. We look forward to welcoming his outlook to this years Nuart Festival!
