JOFRE OLIVERAS // FIRST MURAL OF 2019.
The first Nuart mural of the year, courtesy of the Spanish artist Jofre Oliveras is a breath taking and thought provoking piece of art:
'Beholders' is a timely look at the ongoing migrant crisis. On one side there is the passive position of the observer, on the other side there is the position of the artist. Both act as beholders of the critical situation. With sunken ships being paraded at Bienalles as art, this is a direct shot at both the art establishment and the media coverage of these tragic events. Now we are one week before the elections of the new government in the city and were shocked by a recent post by Sylvi Listhaug, an FRP politician from Norway using an image with a similar rhetoric to that of the mural with a text stating. Norway should not accept boat migrants.
With election weekend coming up, this seems like the best moment to talk about the migrant crisis in this country, and reflect over some of the positions we are taking. Nuart are proud to part of that conversation.
