VLADY (IT)
Vlady is a multidisciplinary visual artist whose work ranges from huge outdoor interventions to minimal installations and street performance to conceptual texts…most of which take place (illegally) on the streets. His spontaneous, humorous and critical approach towards society and situations places him alongside the likes of Biancoshock as one of the leading Italian names active in this particular branch of public art.
Born and raised in Catania in the mid 1970’s, shortly after his high school studies (State Institute of Art) Vlady headed to Milan to study painting at Brera Academy. After receiving his degree in Fine Art, and having grown disillusioned and uninterested in pursuing an artistic career, he left Italy for Ireland in 2003.
For five years his interest in photography, travelling and reading increasingly led him to leave the indoor for the outdoor spaces. In 2008, Vlady returned to his hometown and began to produce increasingly large numbers of Street Art interventions. Over the years his style and the nature of his interventions have changed. Having initially circumnavigated the world of Street Art Vlady finds himself having landed on its edge, or the “Post-Street Art” milieu, as he puts it.
Thanks to some high profile recent works and performances, Vlady has gained national and international recognition in urban and public art circles, resulting in an increasing number of publications, articles, interviews, exhibitions and invitations from Italy and abroad.
Today he lives between Italy and Sweden.
